VVER 440/230
INSTALLATION
VVER - 440/230
Is an abstract investigation during a residency in 2025 near the nuclear power plant „AKW Greifswald,“ inspired by the faint smell of the ongoing decontamination and dismantling process and shaped by my personal reflections.
the VVER - 440/230
Is a soviet pressurized water reactor from the 1970’s, which had significant safety deficiencies and therefore posed a potential risk to its surroundings. It had an electrical output of around 440 megawatts and used water as both coolant and moderator. The reactor core consisted of 312 fuel assemblies.
All reactors of this type were shut down and decommissioned by 2007.
In Germany (DDR), this reactor type was operated at the „bruno leuschner“ nuclear power plant in Greifswald, with four of its six reactor units in operation..
